Accessing Physical Items

Students taking a Distance Education course are eligible to use our courier service if they reside outside of a reasonable commuting distance from Guelph.

  • The Library pays for courier delivery and pickup of items to be returned
  • A home or work address and phone number are required for delivery
  • Deliveries are made Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm
  • Our courier service requires a signature upon delivery
  • Our courier service will not deliver to a post office box, however if applicable, please provide the emergency number and road name
  • Your requested items will generally be delivered within 2-3 business days

How to Get a Physical Item Delivered to you Via Courier

  • Find the book you want using Primo. Note that you will see items at our sister libraries, the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University and others. You can order these items as well as UG items.
  • Click on the Locations & Requests tab

  • Next click on Sign in to Request

    Sign in to place a hold

  • Sign in. You will be prompted to enter your UG barcode number and last name.
  • Click  "Hold" (or "Recall" if the item is checked out)

  • Find the Select Pickup Location drop menu and select Guelph DistEd Circ as the location where items should be picked up.

  • Email libde@uoguelph.ca immediately with the requested item information. We will retrieve, charge out, and send the item to you via courier.

How to Get a Journal Article

  • Search for the journal you want using Primo and/or E-Journals List
  • Most of our journals are available online, but some may only be available in print or at other libraries
  • Sign into RACER. Your login is your University ID barcode. Your password is your last name (lowercase)
  • Search the "journal title" (not the article title)
  • From the results list, click "Get It" at any library that owns the journal
  • Fill in the form with the article author, title, date, volume/issue, and pages
  • At "*Pickup Location" select "Guelph Distance Education"
  • Click “Request”
  • A copy of the article will ONLY be couriered to you if electronic fulfillment is NOT allowed; otherwise you will receive the article electronically via email
  • If you cannot find a library in RACER that owns the journal you need, use the "blank request form" option in the left hand list

How to Return Physical Items to the Library

  • You will receive a pre-paid Purolator waybill with your shipment. Simply follow the included instructions and return your items before they are due back. Journal articles should not be returned.
  • Check your Library account for due dates and to renew books, if necessary
