In response to COVID-19 the library building is closed until further notice and library services are changing.

Community Borrowers

All library services have moved online. While the building remains closed, you can access a number of open access databases online.

Access to Online Resources

  • The Directory of Open Access Journals service contains free, full text, scientific and scholarly journal articles.
  • The Atrium, the University of Guelph institutional repository contains free, full text, quality University of Guelph publications.
  • A list of Open Access databases has been curated by the University of Guelph Library.
  • Unpaywall is a browser extension that will search for free, legal versions of articles.
  • PubMedCentral is a free full-text archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature at the U.S. National Institutes of Health's and National Library of Medicine (NIH/NLM).

Due to licensing restrictions community borrowers may only use online resources from public desktop computers in the library. You will need a Guest Account. This restriction is imposed by the database vendors and enforced as part of our compliance with license agreements. This is standard practice for all academic libraries, and not unique to the University of Guelph.

Community Borrower Card

  • Community Borrower cards provide free access to physical library resources.
  • Ask for a Community Borrower card application at the Ask Us Desk.
  • Community Borrower accounts expire every 2 years.
