Public Performance Rights

Under current Canadian copyright law, public performance rights licensing is not required for educational uses of audio and video materials at the University. Educational use includes any screening which happens on campus, where the purpose of the screening is for education or training, and when the audience consists mainly of students, faculty, or any person who is directly responsible for setting curriculum at the University of Guelph. Borrowing Audio and Video Materials

Learn about our physical audio and video borrowing policies.

  • Take the item to the Ask Us desk on the first floor
  • When the security case is removed, the item is charged out to you for 24 hours
  • UG-affiliated students, staff, and faculty only have access to UG multimedia materials
  • Holds are not permitted on multimedia materials, with the exception of vinyl records which are located at the Annex
  • Request vinyl records by placing a hold in Primo

Booking Physical Audio and Video Materials for Educational Use

Most items can be booked for educational use on campus.

  • Ask us to book the title you'd like to show in class. Please include the title, call number, and date required for showing
  • Allow at least three business days lead time, with the exception of materials located in the annex which require seven business days lead time
  • The item will be ready for you to pick up the item at the Ask Us Desk the day before the show date
  • Return the item to the Ask Us Desk the day after the showing
  • If you require extended use of items, please contact us
