B. Angus Jackson

ANGUS JACKSON, OAC ’39

            Angus Jackson, born in Glen Allen, Ontario in Wellington County, became a teacher before attending OAC. Graduating in Botany and Entomology in 1920, he worked for a brief period with the Federal Government in St. Catharines, Ontario. Military service prevented him from graduating in 1919 with the class he started with.

            In 1928, he married Leona Nash, an only child, and settle on her family farm near Dundas in the original house built by her ancestors in 1810. They raised two sons and a daughter. On their farm, they grew sweet cherries, pears, apples, raspberries, strawberries and grapes.

            After Jackson retired, their son, Roger continued to operate the farm as well as a roadside market. In his remarks, Mr. Jackson remembers many Aggies. In particular, he remembers Tommy Cooper, the Agriculture Representative in Grey County for many years and Arthur “Muzzie” Musgrave, a classmate who won many honours as an athlete at OAC before returning to Grey County to farm. The Jacksons returned to Guelph quite faithfully over the years for the annual Alumni Weekend.
