Become a Scottish Studies Collection Visiting Research Fellow

The University of Guelph is home to the Centre for Scottish Studies—the largest research-intensive centre of its kind outside of Scotland. In the McLaughlin Library’s Archival and Special Collections, you’ll find an extensive Scottish Studies Collection, that is the largest in the world outside the United Kingdom. 

We’re now accepting applications for the 2025 Scottish Studies Collection Visiting Research Fellowships 

The fellowships are designed to foster original research and scholarship by utilizing the collection. This year, we’re looking to announce a competition for two awards, each valued at $1,500 (CAD), in support of research using our collections. The fellowships are jointly sponsored by The Centre for Scottish Studies and the McLaughlin Library. “Much of the library's wonderful Scottish collections have been developed in consultation with The Centre for Scottish Studies, and their faculty are active users of the primary source material housed in the library’s Archival and Special Collections,” said Curtis Sassur, head, Archival & Special Collections. 

Fellowships are open to visiting academics and independent researchers studying Scottish Studies, located internationally, or from across Canada. “We received a wonderfully diverse collection of applications for the fellowship last year, with successful applicants visiting us from the United States and the United Kingdom, and we hope and expect to see a similarly high calibre of application this year,” said Sassur.
