Enhance Your Research: A 6-week Online Open Scholarship Brown Bag Series

Beginning on September 12, the library will be hosting a six-part online Open Scholarship Brown Bag Series for University of Guelph Researchers seeking insights, tools, and discussions to help enhance their research quality.

Brown Bag Session 1: Creating and Using ORCID iDs will take place on Tuesday, September 12 from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. At this session you will learn what ORCID iDs are, how to use your ORCID iD to improve your research workflow, and the benefits of ORCID and persistent identifiers in research.

Brown Bag Session 2: Research Data Management 101 will run on Tuesday, September 19 from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. At this session you will learn all about how research data management (RDM) is being shaped at the national level through the Tri-Agency RDM Policy, and on campus through the U of G RDM Institutional strategy. Find out how both might impact you.

Brown Bag Session 3: The third session in this series Creating a Data Management Plan (DMP), will take place on Tuesday, September 26 from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Learn how these strategic documents outline data collection, storage, analysis, and sharing in research. Understand their significance in responsible data handling, storage, and accessibility.

Brown Bag Session 4: Navigating Academic Publishing: Contracts, Article Processing Charges, and Predatory Journals will run on Tuesday, October 3 from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. and will help you navigate the complexities of: copyright, Open access, APCs, and Predatory (or just low quality) journals.

Brown Bag Session 5: The fifth session in this series Depositing Your Research Data in a Repository, will take place on Tuesday, October 17 from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Learn how sharing your data improves your visibility as a researcher, increases citations for your publications, gives you recognition for your work, attracts new collaborations, and most importantly allows for reproducibility and verification of results.

Brown Bag Session 6: Open Access, Open Data, and the Tri-Agencies will run on Tuesday, October 24 from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Discover the incredible benefits of open access and explore the power of open data both in general and within the context here at the University of Guelph.

During these online sessions, attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions. Attend one session or all six, the choice is up to you. We look forward to seeing you!
