On August 26, 2024, the library is launching a new authentication service called OpenAthens, replacing our previous system, EZProxy.
Why are we making this change?
- This new authentication service provides users with a more secure, reliable, and user-friendly experience.
What you need to know:
- You will use your central U of G single sign-on to access subscription-based electronic resources, both on- and off campus.
- If you’re accessing resources from Omni, the A-Z database list, or through library guides, your experience will look the same as it does now.
Where you’ll notice a change:
- If you click on an authentication link that uses the old system.
- When this happens, you’ll receive a notice with a link to access the resource in the new system.
What you need to act on:
- If you have bookmarked items, use links in your CourseLink site, or if you use a citation management software, like Zotero, EndNote, or Mendeley, you’ll need to change the URL in the software to avoid broken links – use this conversion tool to do so.
- Links using the old system may still work. After May 2025, all links through the legacy authentication system will stop working.
- With the change to OpenAthens, existing Ebook Central users will be getting a new Bookshelf within the platform. If you currently use Bookshelf on Ebook Central, consider exporting your bookshelf settings before you lose access to your existing bookshelf on Sept 3.
