The library provides a variety of in-kind services for grant-funded research (subject to capacity). This page provides an overview of the services we offer for those looking to quantify these in-kind contributions in grant applications.
If you are interested in getting library support for a grant-funded research project, please note the following procedures:
- Please submit a request to the AUL, Research (ian.gibson@uoguelph.ca) including project brief and a submission deadline
- AUL,Research will normally respond to grant inquiries within 10 business days, after consulting with appropriate library teams & individuals

- RDM Planning: how data will be collected, managed, and preserved throughout a research project

Research dissemination – Open data
Consultations and support for open data dissemination, including:
- Local dissemination options:
- The Agri-environmental Research Data Repository (agricultural & environmental research data)
- University of Guelph Research Data Repository (all other research data)
- Preparing data for sharing/long-term access, licensing considerations
- Working with the Borealis platform itself

Research dissemination - Open publishing (articles)
Consultations and support for the publishing process:
- Understanding author rights (including moral rights & copyright)
- Negotiating a publishing contract
- Understanding open access (OA) publishing options (preprint, repositories, journals)
- Selecting an appropriate publication option
- Using the local option The Atrium (U of G’s OA repository for scholarly and creative works)

- Mediated deposit and quality assurance: $120 per researcher per funding year
- Consultation: $75/hour
Research dissemination - Open publishing (journal hosting)

- Strategies to address issues affecting the timely completion of research projects (goal setting, time management, project management strategies & tools, procrastination and perfectionism
- Designing and presenting posters

Effective writing
Consultations, support and training on:
- Creating sustainable writing plans
- Maintaining writing productivity
- Structuring and self-editing papers for publication
Feedback and advice on:
- Drafts of proposals, REB applications, literature reviews, and research papers

Rooms available for: workshops, meetings, lectures, or other events related to a research project
